Hello future students! I much enjoy sharing my experience as a creative musician to my students whether they are 5 or 55, beginner or advanced. I am a patient teacher and do my best to encourage each student to find themselves as unique learners (musicians) unto themselves. I graduated from Columbia College Chicago in 2002 with a BA focus on Music Composition. While recently living in NYC, I formed a 12-member saxophone orchestra, composed and recorded two symphonies, performed and recorded with the late Glenn Branca's 100 Guitar Ensemble, and provided live Sound Design for renowned poetess Anne Carson. There really is no limit to which methods work for people. Every person learns their own way, and it is true that a variety of methods work for an individuals learning process. I enjoy employing all ways of experiencing music including playing by ear, reading sheet music, learning music theory and its practical applications, as well as playing with others and truly feeling what the music is wanting to say. I am a firm believer in showing rather than telling. I always have at least one type of saxophone with me during lessons if not more. For example, if I have a student who is taking baritone saxophone lessons, then I will have a baritone saxophone with me. My goal is not to play along with the student during these lessons; rather it is simply there if I need to demonstrate a key concept to my student. Read More

Being a music education student, I learn about many methods of teaching that can cater to a variety of different people and musicians. I typically like to create practice sheets, so that progress can be tracked over time. Assessments will be based on effort, and minor improvements over a long period of time, as music takes a lot of patience and time to really improve! I will allow students to bring what they may want to work on, as well as recommendations from myself on some exercises/repertoire to check out. Read More

Everything stems from the goal(s) set. We work out a plan to reach those goals and a realistic pace to move at. I also leave room for and expect a moving goal post. Inspiration is heavy the more concepts are successfully explored and understood. I expect the best from my students; nothing more, nothing less. We will not downplay accomplishments or progress, especially when things take longer than expected. Read More

I've been teaching since I began high school when I started giving private lessons to my fellow orchestra members. Ever since I have constantly taught from my home and through various music studios. I emphasize not only regular technical practice but also the practice of independence in a student and bringing forward their original voice. I love to see students of any age develop as artists and grow a love for music as I have. Read More
Instruments: Voice
Helping someone learn how to open up their voice and sing is a joyful experience. Every lesson includes a warm-up for the voice and a series of breathing and vocal exercises. that build skills and technique. The time spent on each part of the lesson varies from student to student to help them make progress. Recognizing their accomplishments helps students identify what they are doing correctly so they can build on that. Read More
