For young beginners, I usually start with simple note reading so that they can begin playing tunes right away. When children realize that they can play "Happy Birthday" or "Jingle Bells" after just a couple of lessons, their interest level increases. For older students, I tend to ask "What does playing the guitar look like to you? What do you imagine yourself doing when you ponder it?" I absolutely LOVE music!!! Let me say that first. I really enjoy playing, listening to, teaching, and learning about music. Most of my playing experience came from growing up in the church and playing in various school and extracurricular music groups. I currently play professionally but I enjoy giving back to students what others have given me over the years. I hope to do the same for my students. I really do cater each lesson to each individual student's needs and ambitions. One of the biggest skills needed as a musician is knowing how to practice and improve. I focus this a lot. We also keep it fun of course and play duets together! Instilling proper technique is crucial to healthy playing of the cello. I give systematic instructions on how to navigate the cello.
