I studied (undergrad and graduate respectively) at Howard University and Temple University, two wonderful urban campuses. I have been blessed to spend years cultivating my style and technique in the authentic music scenes of these cities. Previously mentioned, depending on the individual student, my methods and concepts will change. In teaching i have found there is NOT a "perfect way to teach" or "right way". People are different and everyone learns differently and at different paces, so the style of teaching has to change from student to student. However, the biggest principal i have seen in teaching lessons, is if the teacher believes in the student, and the student knows it, results will sky rocket and the student will do anything for that teacher. I have spent most of my life studying and sharing my love of music.  I started studying music theory at age 9, guitar at age 11 and piano at age 16.  I graduated from Northeastern University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music and also completed a Master Certification in Writing and Production from Berklee College of Music.  I have been lucky to tour nationally with my former band and performed at SXSW and CMJ. My teaching style is is a combination of an active and exciting engagement with the student but with a no-pressure relaxed environment that the student can be comfortable in. I fully invest myself into each of my students and keep track of their progress diligently to be sure to cater to their needs. Overall, I have fun playing music and I want you to experience the same thing. Learning a new skill can be tedious and tough at times but if you can find a way to make it musical and fun then you will have something that you can treasure for the rest of your life whether you want to do it for fun or become a professional. Music has given me so many amazing opportunities world wide and has allowed me to meet some incredible people I would have never met any other way. I enjoy working at the begining to intermediate level for children as I get to introduce the earliest piano musical skills and I usually spend thirty minutes on teaching piano practice methods and thirty minutes on music theory skills. Currently, I use books like Dozen a Day, Scales and Hanon to build good finger techniques, John Thompson and John W.Schaum books for songs and theory preparation. For adults, I would use books related to adult beginning stages in piano and music theory. Read More
