When teaching music (or anything), I always attempt to meet the students where they are: For example, when teaching a young beginner, I m a young beginner, I would probably explain the scale by singing the, "Doe, a Deer," song (from The sound of Music) - everyone knows that. I try to keep things light, simple and fun, while challenging at the same time. For students who are young children, I typically start by addressing the importance of playing what you hear. So, I will teach them beginner classics, such as Twinkle Twinkle and Merry had a Littl eLamb, but I also teach them what thunder sounds like, or a siren, and etc. by drawing on everyday life obejects that create noise. I then move on to learn my student's interests to device a method of positive reinforcement if they complete their homework asssignments or answer questions correctly, usually in the past this has been candy. I have been teaching privately for four years, both in-person and remotely, and have also given guest masterclasses at the University of South Florida. I graduated from the Manhattan School of Music with a Bachelor in Vocal Performance, and from there went on to study at Indiana University, graduating in 2013 with a Master's degree in Vocal Performance.
