Once the students has progressed more, I use Suzuki Method books, and also, choose (introduce) solo pieces for recital performance. For adults, I find out what the student is interested in and find the book that fits their interest (and guide my instruction accordingly to engage them). I teach each student based on their needs and goals. Fundamentals are key to playing well. I always want learning to be fun but effective. I teach the student how to practice to reach goals and help the student set goals. I teach in terms of musicality followed by technicality. For beginner clarinetists, we will begin working out of the Voxman/Gower Beginner Method Book. We will spend the majority of the first lessons learning posture, holding the instrument, proper embouchure, blowing into the clarinet, breathing techniques, articulation, and how to develop sound through long tones and exercises. During the process, basics of music reading and music theory will be taught. For intermediate to Advanced students, we will learn all scales and arpeggios using the Klose Method book. Read More

For the first twelve years, I was mentored under the tutelage of Janet Houston. I also have a combined 14 years of orchestral performance experience, beginning with the Dearborn Youth Symphony which lasted ten years.
