Instruments: Saxophone Clarinet
For beginning students, I usually employ the Rubank method books. These books, while not as flashy as others, are exceptional for building technique, musicality, and reading skills. In addition, my students focus upon proper tone production, technique, and posture as we explore their musical preferences. I encourage my students to explore the genres of music that they enjoy as well. Through fun Disney excerpts, jazz transcriptions, pop music, or any other passion, we keep our lessons productive, yet fun. Read More

My teaching experience started many years ago with a few students who were interested in learning jazz and improvisational music. I have taught group classes and one on one now for 25 years. I have much experience working with beginner and young students making their first attempts at playing an instrument as well as players already proficient at the guitar who want to brach out and learn new things. I prefer to teach students who can commit to a regular scheduled weekly lesson as Ive found the consistant work on an instrument is what really produces the most positive results and enjoyment for the student. For beginning students, I like to use either standard of excellence or essential elements. I also pull from my own personal library or will ask to provide materials based on the students needs. Lessons are structured with some type of warm up, a technique and solo performance, as well as practicing skills on sight reading. This is good for both adults and kids. I also like to set goals at each lesson and have a time frame of what the expectations are for the following lesson. Read More

I constantly assess my students' skill and ability levels and use curriculum accordingly. I am very intuitive with how my students are feeling about their own progress and constantly check in with them to see how they feel about their progress and accomplishments. I set goals for my students, ensure that they practice to reach them on a regular basis, and then celebrate their success with positive reinforcement. This includes verbal praise and encouragement, parental involvement and recitals. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet French Horn
Beginners start with Accent in Achievement and work daily on book 1 and I suggest they play with a beginning band. By the second year they should finish book 1 and start book 2; work on parts of book 3 as they can play a complete scale or scales and then use book 3 as appropriate. It is suggested that students practice an hour a day, however students need not be all at one time. Read More

I came to a life in music through the music of my neighborhood, church and public education. My first experience with a Brass instrument (after displaying a woeful lack of aptitude for the clarinet,) was with the Trombone. Unfortunately my arms weren't long enough to get the slide to the lowest positions on the slide, so my teacher gave me cornet to try, a day or so later I could get a consistent sound. Read More

My earliest teaching experience began in high school while teaching several middle school groups for the local zone concerts. I have taught several lesson plans in the Washoe County School district and successfully completed a 14 week internship teaching orchestra at Depoali MS and McQueen HS. I have been a counselor at Lake Tahoe Music Camp for two years now and plan to complete my third and final year this summer. Read More
