I'm a pssionate musician and music teacher. I enjoy sharing my passion with students. I spend much of my time composing and teaching. I graduated from Lewis and Clark College in 2012 with a major in English and a heavy emphasis on music. I have studied African drumming, electronic music, classical music and jazz. I am well versed in hip hop as well. I have stayed tru to my roots and focused on mostly acoustic music, but my range transfers over to electric as well. Read More

I believe that a strong foundation is essential for steady progress and confident performance. A comprehensive approach is my preference. Therefore, when I teach piano, I prefer Faber and Faber Piano Adventures paired with A Dozen a Day for added technique. Since many students in this school district are in band or orchestra, I usually use Essential Elements for Strings, Brass, and Woodwinds. I spend a reasonable amount of time preparing my students for our recitals and many of them join in the group songs, which have included "What a Wonderful World", "Happy", and currently "The Theme From Midnight Cowboy". I have also taught singers to arrange their own accompaniment. I am a high-level music educator who helps my students tap into their deepest potentials. When I hear a student playing a song they have made up, I teach them how to write it down. I am in the process of developing an application that helps students learn to notate what they have played on the piano in such a way that they are learning how to compose. Read More

Beginners start with Accent in Achievement and work daily on book 1 and I suggest they play with a beginning band. By the second year they should finish book 1 and start book 2; work on parts of book 3 as they can play a complete scale or scales and then use book 3 as appropriate. It is suggested that students practice an hour a day, however students need not be all at one time. Read More

Goals are an essential part of teaching. Students need something to work toward and I want those goals to be realistic and motivate the student to work towards them. Having a basic outline of a lesson plan is important and so is the flexibility to adjust it to fit the individual needs of the student. My goal is not to have the best playing students, but to have students with the most growth in their own abilities. Read More

I really enjoy seeing my students progress and and fulfill there hopes and dreams in music. My goal is for you to get the most out of your playing experience and enjoy the journey! Read More

My fundamental philosophy is to provide each student with a methodical approach to achieving, developing and maintaining a well balanced set of skills. Beyond the technique of how to make "your best" sound, and the efforts to build skills, I make efforts to instill the concept of "Procedural Memory" in creating, developing and expanding a "complete sense of flow in playing." Have a plan and always play musically. It's "HOW" you practice that counts! Read More
