We can use any resources you have that can attend to the technical elements or musical demands that you are working toward. If you prefer we can employ any edition of the "Grand Methods" of the 19th 20th centuries as well as contemporary publications. As a Brass Pedagogue I prefer to have students employ the Claude Gordon Method series and the ancillary books by Arban, Brophy, H.L. Clarke, Gatti, Irons, St.Jacomes...I can always send you pages of things you need. Read More

I suggest playing for ten minutes at one time working through each exercise for those ten minutes before taking a rest for 20 minutes. Then move to the next etude or scale. Start with a consistent warm up in the middle of your range. The warm up should be the same every time wherein students can expand on their warm up on their own. This warm up is part of the first ten minutes of practice time. Read More
Instruments: Piano Clarinet
I began teaching piano and clarinet while I was in high school. I currently teach 1st grade in the Fairfield area as well as have a few private students. My students have been selected for county honor bands, all northern honor bands, all state honor bands and even all national honor bands. I encourage regular practice and always find music that peaks their interests and makes them want to practice while also working on foundational skills. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone Clarinet
For beginning students, I usually employ the Rubank method books. These books, while not as flashy as others, are exceptional for building technique, musicality, and reading skills. In addition, my students focus upon proper tone production, technique, and posture as we explore their musical preferences. I encourage my students to explore the genres of music that they enjoy as well. Through fun Disney excerpts, jazz transcriptions, pop music, or any other passion, we keep our lessons productive, yet fun. Read More

I believe that a strong foundation is essential for steady progress and confident performance. A comprehensive approach is my preference. Therefore, when I teach piano, I prefer Faber and Faber Piano Adventures paired with A Dozen a Day for added technique. Since many students in this school district are in band or orchestra, I usually use Essential Elements for Strings, Brass, and Woodwinds. I spend a reasonable amount of time preparing my students for our recitals and many of them join in the group songs, which have included "What a Wonderful World", "Happy", and currently "The Theme From Midnight Cowboy". I constantly assess my students' skill and ability levels and use curriculum accordingly. I am very intuitive with how my students are feeling about their own progress and constantly check in with them to see how they feel about their progress and accomplishments. I set goals for my students, ensure that they practice to reach them on a regular basis, and then celebrate their success with positive reinforcement. This includes verbal praise and encouragement, parental involvement and recitals. Read More
