Instruments: Drums
I have various teaching styles that I adapt based on the individual I am teaching. Some people learn best through visual and auditory methods, while others require written instructions. I am comfortable teaching in both styles, but I have noticed that most individuals learn best through hands-on experience. Nonetheless, I can adjust my teaching approach to accommodate anyone who wants to learn how to play the drums. If a student has interest in playing the drums with other people quickly, then i will also teach them important factors that come with that. Read More
Instruments: Piano Oboe Bassoon
I have always had an eclectic love for all things music, and enthusiastically share it with anyone who will have me! There was a piano in my house growing up and I couldn't stay away. In school, I studied oboe and bassoon. Eventually I just explored any instrument that caught my interest- guitar, trumpet, ocarinas, panflutes, etc. I spent a lot of time doing musical theatre, and studied voice for a time as well. Instruments: Voice
Young children literally have a small voice so they cannot produce the same volume or quality of sound as an adult. For young children that are ready to start training, the lessons are structured to avoid straining the voice. The music chosen for young students is age-appropriate, lyric-appropriate and within the range of a young voice. I accompany my students on the piano and can transpose music that a child likes to a key that is easier for them to sing. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Trombone Saxophone Flute Clarinet
Music is a big part of my life. I started playing trumpet in the fifth grade and eventually went to the University of Toledo where I received my bachelor and masters in music education. I have been a band director for thirteen years and have much experience starting students on all instruments. My college training and my years so far as a band director have helped me to learn how to play all of the instruments in the band. Read More
Instruments: Drums
I have three main books I use; these are my drum 'bibles'. Progressive Steps to Syncopation by Ted Reed, Stick Control for the Snare Drummer by George Lawrence, and Advanced Techniques for the Modern Drummer by Jim Chapin. I like to teach fundamentals first, providing a strong basis with which to expand your repetoire. Then I like to emphasize song work. The best part of drumming in my opinion is playing with other instruments, and in addition to playing with recorded music, I encourage my students to find other musicians to practice and even perform with. My name is Aaron; I am a teacher and performer, based in the Metro-Detroit area. I am currently a graduate bass trombone student at the University of Michigan, studying with Dr. David Jackson. This past summer, I was chosen as one of three finalists in the International Trombone Association's Donald Yaxley Solo Bass Trombone Competition. My primary teachers include Steve Wolfinbarger and David Jackson, and I have also taken lessons and performed masterclasses with Jeremy Wilson, Massimo LaRosa, Nick Schwartz, Ken Thompkins, Evan Conroy, and Randy Hawes.
