For visual learners, I encourage them to develop their sight-reading skills, but also find creative ways to work around ear training if it is difficult for them. One of my professors Mike Lacopelli was the recording engineer for Parliament as well as ran live sound for Aretha Franklin for 8 years. Later in my college career I began playing synthesizer with a band and working for Delta States Studio.
