My teaching experience began when I was in grad school, where I taught a few students at a local high school. Since moving to the KC area eight years ago, I have been consistently teaching and gradually building my private studio, which now has over 20 students! I love working with young singers (specifically grades 8-12) and helping them find the potential in their voices.  I have encountered the full range of ability levels, from very experienced (had lessons before, sung multiple solos in school choir, had lead roles in musicals, etc.) to complete novice (no lessons, no choir experience).  My overall approach to lessons is the same, regardless of ability level: consistent improvement from week to week using vocal exercises, songs, and an exploration of breath and the physicality of singing. Hello! I am a highly motivated private instructor that loves to share my passion of music to all. I graduated from Emporia State University in May 2023 with my Master of Music degree in Flute Performance. During my time at ESU I was in the marching band (piccolo/trumpet), Hornet Revue (piccolo), Jazz Ensemble (piano), Wind Ensemble (principal flute/piccolo), symphony orchestra (principal flute), fall musicals, and flute choir. I take each student's individual needs into account and work on scale or Kreuzter etudes, and assign them solo repertoire suitable for their playing level and practice habits. I ask my students what it is they are trying to accomplish with me. Typically I look for goals that I know the student can accomplish if they apply themselves. I love nothing more than seeing them push themselves and watch them improve their playing to a level they originally thought they could not achieve. I really enjoy providing students with positive feedback and reinforcement to cultivate a nurturing environment to foster musical growth in a positive way. I like to listen to what the student is giving to the music, teach them positively what should be reinforced, and what should be understood in a technical aspects of playing to understand why certain things work and why other things do not. I think its important to figure out how the student learns best and tailor my teaching style to the individual. Read More
