So, while the overall structure of my lessons is going to be the same for everyone, it is vital that I set realistic goals for each student based on their own experience and individuality. For beginners I use a method book for learning how to read music and learn music theory.  Once the basics are attained I introduce scales and etudes to build on the technical aspects of playing the instrument.  Solo books are also added to the repertoire for the student so that they can use everything they have learned thus far and express that in a piece of music. I was also able to cadet teach second grade music for my entire senior year. On top of the education classes that I was required to take in college, I began taking on a couple of voice students to jump start my career as a music teacher. I now teach fifth grade general music and I enjoy every second of it. I believe that learning should be fun and motivating in order to be successful and that is the biggest output that I would like for my voice students. Read More

For piano students, I like to use the Alfred method books with supplemented music that peeks their interest. I like these books because they have several series depending on the age of the student and their interests such as music theory and broadway hits.-For woodwind students, I like to work for a few weeks out of their band books so I can assess their strengths and weaknesses. As such, much of my instruction is based on what I hear happening in the singer's voice that moment. However, I have many exercises and resources to aid in the lessons. I love to play the guitar! I write songs, teach music, and lead worship. It's too good not to share! I played trumpet in school from fifth to eleventh grade, and then picked up the guitar after my senior year in high school. I immediately began writing songs.
