For beginner Piano students who are young, I teach either from Hal Leonard's Essential Elements or Faber & Faber. Both are great interactive resources that help guide toward mastery of the basics. I also like to include games using flash cards and note names for my youngest students who learn best through a variety of activities. I believe that private voice instructions demands a tailored and customized approach to each individual student and his or her voice. As such, much of my instruction is based on what I hear happening in the singer's voice that moment. However, I have many exercises and resources to aid in the lessons. From there we move on: Beginner students will work on basic fundamentals. Advanced students will work on the chosen piano piece. Afterwards will discuss what next lesson's goal will be. In order for students to achieve their goals, both long-term and short-term, it is expected of them to practice at least 30 minutes a day.
