I like to take a global approach to teaching percussion. The things that can be learned by playing on a pad with drumsticks can be transferred to other instruments such as Marimba, Timpani, and Multiple-Percussion. I find it essential to teach students good fundamentals in order for them to progress without having to fix bas habits. I also like to curb my lessons to fit what each student needs. The best part of teaching is seeing the look in my student's eyes as something finally clicks for them. Helping students grow into independent musicians is my main goal as a teacher. I do this through helping the students understand all of the moving parts of music, like the theory behind what they are playing, so that they are able to transfer their knowledge to whatever music they will work on next. I also studied symphonic band, musical theater, and jazz throughout high school while learning improvisational skills as a church pianist. I've had the opportunity to play with other musicians in band and studio settings; my particular favorite project was with a violinist who had performed in Carnegie Hall. At this point in my life, I play for wedding ceremonies and a local church, while working towards obtaining my Bachelor of Arts with the Berklee College of Music for Composition and Orchestration for Film and Television.
