I love teaching beginning and intermediate students in piano and woodwinds. I graduated early from Hiram College in 1993 with a degree in Instrumental Music Education. I have been proudly teaching general and instrumental music in the Cleveland Public Schools for the last twenty-three years. I am an experienced and passionate teacher and performer. I hold my K-12 Music Teaching Certification in Ohio and New Jersey. As a professional vocalist, I have appeared with various orchestras and small opera companies in Chicago, Cleveland, Philadelphia, and beyond. I have performed at Severance Hall, Playhouse Square, Philadelphia's Kimmel Center, and Chicago's Harris Theater, but as a student, I never thought that would be the case. My teaching style is based on love, patience, kindness and understanding. My priority is to create a safe space for students so that they can express themselves freely and authentically. The most important aspect is to make learning a fun, enjoyable and fulfilling process by understanding the student and listening to what they want to accomplish. In order to understand the student and make this session an enjoyable one, I always use this technique of knowing what type of learner I'm working with: We have four main types of learners: visual, auditory, reading/writing, and kinesthetic.  1.) I have been teaching since I was in Highschool, specifically tutoring younger kids while I was a senior. From there, I helped with sectionals while I was at Baldwin Wallace University. When I started at the University of Akron, I accepted a full Clarinet assistant ship, teaching private lessons to Undergraduate Clarinetists and coaching chamber music. Maya was born in Odessa, Ukraine. She started learning to play piano at the age of five and hasnt stopped since. Maya studied at the Conservatory in Ukraine and achieved Master of Arts in piano performance and piano teaching. Later she accompanied for dancers and singers of the Odessa Theater of Opera and Ballet. Maya teach music to childrens and adults more than 20 years. After moving to the US, she worked as an accompanist at the Andahazy School of Classical Ballet in Minnesotaand continues to teach. Read More
