I've played in symphony orchestras as well as concert bands, both amateur and professional. This is helpful so they won'tget bored or tired easily. There are important transitional mechanisms in the clarinet especially that have to be overcome before starting with the scales studies. I may use metaphor, abstract theory, cards, body movements depend on each individual. Once students overcome a challenge, students may acknowledge accomplishment and gain desire to progress.
