I have taught drum instruction and Jazz ensemble at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music for 20 years. In addition I developed and implemented elementary music programs for K-5 thru 4th grade for schools in the NY vicinity. Upon moving to the Milwaukee area I have taught private and group instruction for the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, Elementary Music K-5 thru 8th grade at St. Josaphat's school, Music Therapy and intergenerational activities at the Lutheran Home, private studio and now Musika. My instruction experience dates back to my time in high school, as I started instructing private lessons part time 11 years ago, and have been regularly teaching in my home studio throughout that time. Creating a consistent practice schedule is one of the ideas I like to emphasize for younger students, as it will be more likely to benefit student development, and help them grow a passion for the instrument. My teaching experience started in high school when I started teaching harp and piano part time. I had a close relationship with my music teachers growing up and I hope to establish the same type of relationship with my own students as I have with previous ones. It's also important that there is a balance between fun and time put in. Without practice, one cannot play an instrument well.
