For beginner's I tend to start with lesson books, especially Hal Leonard's Essential Elements because that's what I learned from! I move up from there and like to teach lessons from all different types of genre's and also teach different techniques such as vibrato, jazz flute, etc. Scales and warm-up's are an essential part of every lesson and I always do them no matter what age student I am teaching! After a sufficient "warm up" period is achieved, ensemble is next. At the more basic level I try to focus on duets. If group work is indicated trio, quartet (or more) is possible. Doubling parts may be needed (depending on task). I like to use a battery operated keyboard as drum machine (metronome) for teaching too. I like to use "Piano Adventures by Faber". Also I  teach music theory and ear training. My students musical interests are important to me. I try to find materials that they will enjoy playing. Children must be thought not what to think but how to think. I ask my students to try to find the answer themselves not always giving them the answer.    Read More
