I start beginning students that are interested in learning to play guitar with rhythm for the strumming hand. I will then move on to the fretting hand to finger positioning as well as learning the notes (on the guitar fingerboard) as heard at concert pitch. I teach the basics using a combination of methods, customizing lessons to each student's skill level, ability level, and interest (classical/folk/modern). For beginning students I suggest using the Suzuki Method, or Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. As I went through high school I began to realize that I had a knack for teaching young players one-on-one as opposed to a large classroom, this is what inspired me to study music performance as opposed to music education.
