After teaching myself theory at the age of 4, I received my first musical instruction in 6th grade. At that time I learned to play the flute. This is where my musicianship began to blossom and opportunities were sent my way. Thanks to my love and dedication, I was one of a few placed in special bands. Auditioning & being selected for choruses during this time increased as well. As a result of my hard work, I was offered & accepted the positions at section leader and Drum Majorette in my high school's concert and marching bands & after joining choir my junior year I became lead soloist of the choir. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching privet lessons more then 20 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 10 years. Encouraging regular practice a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to empathize for younger students, as it tends to help the students progress and gain a passion for the instrument. My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original materials, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. Each lesson starts with technical exercises, follwed by repertoire. Each student does theory during the lesson with twenty questions at the end. During this time, I do all review theory material. Difficult passages are marked with a "P" chart. They have to play the difficult part four times and get a "P" for each perfect playing. Every fifth time they have to repeat from the beginning to integrate the difficult part with the rest of the song. Read More
Instruments: Voice
I teach holistically, believing the voice to be an instrument inseparable from the person. With all students we endeavor to sing healthily, preserving voices for longevity, and to meet whatever goals the students desire. I am studied in the Bel Canto, Lamberti, and Concone technique and have successfully prepared many students for auditions, contests, festivals, and self confidence for life. The techniques for singing that I use are to create a sound, healthy, and free voice. Read More

Hi, my name is Dylan Carpenter, I've been teaching for about 11 years. I graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Music Performance degree in 2015 and won my position with the United States Air Force Band of Mid-America in 2018. While in college I had the exciting opportunity to perform around the state in outreach engagements as well as abroad in China and Mexico. I enjoy helping students achieve their goals in music, no matter how big or small they may be. Read More

Since we're all different, I try to identify students' goals, interests and abilities as we progress. With few exceptions -- students whose temperament andpersonality dictate completing a book before considering another -- I always choose from a large assortmentof method, performance, classical books from my library. I also have a good collection ofBroadway musicals, jazz books, etc. (My favorite series is the Faber and Faber repertoire.) Read More

I've been teaching private lessons for about 5 years, beginning during my undergrad studies. It has been extremely rewarding to have the opportunity to share my knowledge about healthy singing and making music with others. I have experience with a range of ages and voice types, and am trained in vocal pedagogy. As my students have been interested in many different musical styles, I have been able to apply my knowledge across genres. Read More
