For beginning students I use Faber and John Thompson books. Once the student improves of course we upgrade to more challenging songs and books. For adults I find out what they're interested in and instruct accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and always fun no matter what. I base my teaching method on my strong, enthusiastic, optimistic, patient, and loving character. This series incorporates basic music theory in each lesson which is imperative for success on the piano. The lessons use graphics, language and examples that children can easily grasp, and are lots of fun to read and play. As their skills improve, I play an accompaniment for encouragement and fun. Initially (and throughout) I place a high value on performance fundamentals. I start with a focus on proper posture and breathing. Once this can be executed I breakdown the nomenclature of the student's instrument, how to put it together and break it down. Teaching strategies and experience ranges differently from each instructor. For beginners, such as children, I would start with the book series 'Essential Elements'. From experience, Leonard provides the most thorough book to grasp the ability to learn violin. Scale practice and listening sessions would also be a consideration for children as repetition is best to help the younger audience learn such an intricate instrument.
