My teaching experience goes back to my high school days, where I began to teach private lessons part time ten years ago. Since then, I have been consistently been teaching students in private studios. I encourage regular practice on a consistent schedule and motivate my students on a daily basis. I also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoying playing instruments. Read More

All of the skills that I teach are based upon a lifetime of performing. I have been singing since I joined choir in 4th grade and began playing guitar at 14. I started teaching after I finished my undergrad, but my skills were greatly enhanced when I did my Master's degree. I was employed by FSU to teach while I was in my Master's, and I had a rotating studio of 10-14 college age musicians who I met with on a weekly basis. Read More

I create a hands on curriculum based on the students musical proficiency. Alongside this structured lesson plan, every student will receive training on proper practicing techniques which help build their sense of guidance, responsibility, and structure. Students will also receive training for embouchure and tone development as well as warm up etudes that cater to the students skill level. Music theory and terms will be infused within the lesson plans to ensure my student's proper use of signs and symbols. Read More

My methods are largely dependent upon the personality and learning style of my students. One thing is always constant in my teaching, and that is the monitoring of the students ability to read and interpret written music and tablature. The first week or two is devoted solely to establishing a basic ability to site-read music within the student. From that point, the journey into the world of guitar begins. I tend to employ the Hal Leonard method of teaching, following along with several of the Hal Leonard guitar books, for electric and acoustic guitars, also bass. Read More

I've been playing music my whole life. My father is my biggest inspiration. I started my training at Peabody when I was 5 years old in their music exploratory program. Next I studied cello for many years. When I was a teenager about 13 I started trying to hold my cello sideways and that's hone my father bought me an electric bass. In the NAVY I picked up the guitar and I've been professionally playing for over 25 years. Read More

It's all about having a clear goal in mind and working towards it: we'll have conversations about objectives and musical preferences (classical? jazz? rock and pop?) and then develop goals based on those preferences (playing live? what kind of pieces/songs?). Once I have an idea of where the student wants to be, I share my lesson plans with them and tell them what particular exercises or songs/pieces will fit those goals. Read More
