Piano students will also learn basic rhythm comping skills and learn what it's like to play in a rhythm section while I accompany them on drum set. I have my lesson booklet available for purchase in which each student can design their own curriculum to meet their goals. I also recommend additional books for each student as they develop more specific interests and needs. Piano/keyboard students will learn all scales/ chord progressions, soloing ideas and work out of a fake book. Read More

Music is like learning a new language. Its a completely different concept. For beginning children repetion is the key. Children love repetion so Suzuki is perfect. Dr. Suzuki's idea is the mother and child learn the instrument at the same time so that the child can hear the tunes and can play it on the violin. Its the same idea that the suzuki method comes with a CD that the child can listen to. Read More

It's important to cultivate a student's musical knowledge by building upon their current foundation. Similar to the way children learn a language, music students of all ages should start by listening and singing/playing before learning to read and even write. Combining this natural approach with a focus on how and why to develop good technique helps students get the results they're looking for. Read More

My teaching experience began in high school where, as a junior, I began teaching middle school saxophone players. As I went through high school I began to realize that I had a knack for teaching young players one-on-one as opposed to a large classroom, this is what inspired me to study music performance as opposed to music education. When I moved to Kennesaw to change majors from Classical to Jazz Saxophone Performance, I realized how fortunate I was to now know how to teach both classical and jazz genres of my instrument. Always start where the student is, and take them from there. Always encourage and inspire students to be better than yesterday. Progress, no matter the amount, is progress. Take your own pace. If you have a specific deadline, for example a college audition, you will have to commit to practicing more than usual and we will create a plan of action. Also, I do write letters of recommendation. Celebrating daily practice to turn goals into accomplishments, I love seeing my students learn, harness their determination to do more, learn more, and I love seeing my students happy with their self-worth. Instruments: Piano
My teaching experience dates back to my high school years. My piano instructor at the time appreciated my gifts and allowed me to assist with teaching beginner students. I continued to teach throughout my college years and still enjoy teaching today. I encourage regular practice and a consistent schedule. I find that consistency helps with progress and with the development of a passion for making music. I encourage my students to enter competitions and recitals so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. Read More

When it comes to teaching style, Mr. Alben focuses on building a strong technical and theoretical basis, providing the student with a road map to navigate the greater world of music. He believes in providing the tools necessary in order to facilitate the exploration in their own musical language. Therefore, though the technical and theoretical foundation is rooted in the Western Classical traditions, he encourages the exploration in other musical traditions and genres (including popular ones), especially if the student has a desire to do so.
