My teaching experience began in 2001, during an after school program. I facilitated a drum circle and taught lessons to kids from ages 8 to 15 years old. This lead to several parents of the students requesting private drum lessons. For trumpet students I initially provide my own material, based on the exercises which I have found to be beneficial in my own playing. Early on, I'll ask most students to play a recording of one of their favorite songs, which we'll use to improvise to as well as for ear-training purposes. Entered my first proper studio in 2000 to record a 4-song EP with with The Wax Dolls. Following the older siblings departure to college, the remainder of the band regrouped as PipSqeak. As the sole male in that riot girl project, I enjoyed learning to write and play more restrained and sophisticated parts for the shifted tone and leadership in the band. After PipSqueak recorded the EP Prom Queen; the song Alone at the Rock Show got my first radio play on Tulsas Z104.5, and we even shot a (unreleased) video with then-student Tulsa videographer/journalist Paul Taggert.
