For beginners, I like to start with the Rubank method books, which progress pretty rapidly. I also focus on tone production and scales as we move along at the level of the individual student. I gauge the speed at which we move based on the student in question, and prepare a practice routine for each student based on how much time they have to practice each day. For an intermediate to advanced student, I work with more the more advanced Rubank method books, and suggest solo literature appropriate for them to prepare. Read More

When I teach a new student, I like to get them playing something fun first! I love to have my students playing a basic 4/4 rock beat by the end of the first lesson. Drumming is so much fun, so lets not get right into the rudiments and technique RIGHT away! Practice is important to learn the piano. I use the Faber series books, because they use a more classical style approach. I will teach whatever style you would like to pursue. It can include music theory, using chords and scales. The Faber series however does not introduce scales, or key signatures right off. They take it for granted, so I have to side teach using my own curriculum to make up for what is missing. Read More

I am a professional licensed educator, as well as, a mother of two grown children, both of which influence my teaching method. My style is individualized to the student's personality - what works for one may not work for another. One student may be very driven to learn theory and do written homework, while another may find written homework to be agonizing but love learning new pieces of music - I will work with both styles, with the same result - each student learns to play the instrument and learns the required theory to be able to play the piano, while hopefully enjoying it along the way! My teaching experience began when I was in college. I taught trombone and euphonium private lessons for several years in the school district that I attended when I was a student. Additionally, I also have done All State Masterclasses for the TMEA trombone etudes.
