I believe that a strong foundation is essential for steady progress and confident performance. A comprehensive approach is my preference. Therefore, when I teach piano, I prefer Faber and Faber Piano Adventures paired with A Dozen a Day for added technique. Since many students in this school district are in band or orchestra, I usually use Essential Elements for Strings, Brass, and Woodwinds. I spend a reasonable amount of time preparing my students for our recitals and many of them join in the group songs, which have included "What a Wonderful World", "Happy", and currently "The Theme From Midnight Cowboy". If the student is a beginner, I suggest just playing one note for a short time and expand that to three notes. This can be done very quickly, then most students can move to easy tunes on a single sheet of music. This music is commonly known as sheet music and con be accessed and played in line or through the purchase of said sheet music on many sites. If the student in not a beginner, advanced or intermediate I have to do a performance ability assessment. Read More

I am a motivated and aspiring music educator. I have been in music since the 6th grade and am born and raised in Reno, NV. I graduated from ths University of Nevada, Reno with my Bachelor's in Music Education. I have been in an Orchestra every year of my musical career as well as participating in various Choir and Band ensembles. I have traveled with all three ensembles at some point, performing in various venues around the country and once in Canada. Read More

My basic approach to teaching is to evaluate where the student will be most able to gain skill and knowledge that helps them reach whatever their musical goal is. I customize my teaching to each students needs and abilities to optimize success and progress. I found thru my years of teaching hundreds of students that the ones who feel they got something they were wanting to learn are the most motivated to keep going. Read More

I use the Suzuki method which is an ear training method that trains the students to play familiar songs without having to read music. I teach them to read music afterwords. Much of my teaching method revolves around improvisation and experimentation. I use these techniques to get a feel for my students and then personalize the lessons to what suits their particular needs. Read More

We can use any resources you have that can attend to the technical elements or musical demands that you are working toward. If you prefer we can employ any edition of the "Grand Methods" of the 19th 20th centuries as well as contemporary publications. As a Brass Pedagogue I prefer to have students employ the Claude Gordon Method series and the ancillary books by Arban, Brophy, H.L. Clarke, Gatti, Irons, St.Jacomes...I can always send you pages of things you need. Read More

I always make things work in a lesson, so if your child didn’t get a chance to practice the week leading up to the lesson, I work around that. I base the lesson and the student and what they feel like they need to work on. At every lesson, we both set goals of what skill they want to accomplish and the time frame they want to accomplish it in. Read More
