I have been playing/singing since 1980. My main instrument is Trombone but I have played Euphonium, Tuba, Trumpet, and Choir. I have been assisting Marching bands with the low brass section for the last 5 years. I have Taught privately for the last 10 years. My teaching style feels relaxed but I work hard to keep students in their least restrictive environment. We dont want the student to be too challenged or bored. For this reason I am flexible with the content we work on and the order in which we complete different parts of the lesson. I earned a bachelors degree in music composition and studied classical guitar in college. I taught private lessons off and on for several years before beginning teaching at a Music Studio in Columbus, Ohio. While there, I taught many guitar and ukulele lessons, and even started a ukulele club. While I was working at the studio teaching lessons at night, I was working on a masters degree in education. For all students, I begin with classical fundamentals such as body alignment, breath support, and resonance and moving to topics including diction, vocal health, interpretation, and stage presence. I will work with the student to find repertoire that will best fit their voice, help achieve their musical goals, and be aligned with what they enjoy musically.
