I love watching students succeed and learn the viola or violin! This is why we go by the student's pace and work with their ability. I require a notebook or binder for me to record what the student will need to work on for the following lesson, which helps them remember what they're assigned, as well as keeping them accountable about expectations. As students master the exercises new ones are assigned and worked on. Additionally, I assign repertoire that enables the student to work on the needed technical skills. In terms of repertoire selection, I always keep the student's interests in mind, but I always make sure that the student has one piece that has been carefully curated by me. I began teaching about 7 years ago as a part time way of making a little bit of extra money while in school and began teaching at middle and high schools in preparation for marching band and festival band competitions 5 years ago. I have toured with 3 different ensembles in a jazz medium, a classical medium, and as a brass quintet and have played in many side by side performances with young children up to high school, as well as performing with members of the New York Pops under direction of the world renowned conductor and composer Steven Reineke. It was the same for me when I started learning tennis.
