For beginning students, I typically start with the universal drum exercises every drummer should know, like the Ted Reed's book "syncopation" or the very classic "stick control". These exercises are mostly for warm ups, hand coordination, internalizing rhythm, and speed training. Depending on their musical background, I often like to introduce basic music theory concepts just so we are able to speak the same language. I am classically trained but I also compose music extensively on a daily basis . I have had a life long passion for music and started playing when I was eight years old. I am currently the pianist for the ballet program at Macalester College, LIse Houlton's professional class at MDT, the Metropolitan Ballet, and Ballet Minnesota. I was 4 years old when I found my passion for playing the piano. I was taught classically through MacPhail Center For Music and attended examinations yearly through The Royal Conservatory of Music. As I grew older, I taught friends and neighborhood kids how to play the piano and found a passion for teaching and watching people learn.
