I aid them with this research by providing introductory resources, eventually leading them towards general music databases. What’s important is to strike a balance of activities that works for the student, engaging their desire to learn while giving them the structure necessary for success. There is a wealth of lessons to help progress the student with fundamentals and gradually moving at a pace that is right for them. Once they have gained the confidence to move on, there is also a second book that follows. I try to introduce my students to different styles and genres of music. Their repertoire ranges from dances and songs to variations, concertos and sonatas. In order to be able to play such an array of genres, one requires what I like to call a "laboratory of skills".
