I generally start with a Q & A to get a feel for the artist and what their true intent is, then I go for the kill. I need to know the who, what, where, when and why of the music industry in their own words. The how part is what we will work on together to achieve the goal. Pen and Pad has always been tradition when writing a song, but I recommend some app to where your created work is automatically dated. Read More

Hello! My name is Alec. I fell in love with the piano when I began taking lessons at 7 years old, and Ive been enjoying the instrument ever since! I gained early experience by performing in studio recitals, competing in district contests, and accompanying our school choir. I was eventually hired to play regularly for a local church when I was 14, and by the time I was a senior in high school, I was playing for 3 churches in town regularly juggling multiple services some weekends. I like to learn what my students musical interests are as soon as possible and then to do all I can to nurture that. Since music is something which is played for an audience its important to find them an audience to perform for . It can be just mom and dad, the Girl Scouts campfire sing along, a jam session at the local coffeehouse or sitting in at a blues or jazz jam if no formal recitals are available. Read More

I began teaching private guitar lessons while I was attending Ohio State University. I was a teaching assistant while in graduate school. During my school days I thought of teaching music simply as a way to earn some money. After completing my college work I became a touring freelance musician, performing with widely-varying artists and an extremely wide range of style and genres. I noticed that, because of the excellent understanding of music I was given, I could easily go from one genre to another effortlessly, while most of the musicians with whom i played seemed to stay within one particular style or feel. I began piano lessons at the age of 5, and organ lessons at age 10. I became the junior organist at Lagonda United Methodist Church at age 14, playing at the early service. By age 17, I became their principle organist and choir accompanist. Five years later, I also became the organist and choir director at Highlands United Church of Christ. I attended Wright State University on academic and music scholarships, and graduated, magna cum laude, in 2001, with concentration in organ, piano, and vocal. Read More

My lessons focus on trouble areas identified during the initial lesson. I would develop a plan of attack setting realistic goals that are both measureable, realistic and obtainable to achieve. A usual model lesson would consist of the following segments: 1. Intonation - I would spend about 5-10 minutes in this area training the student to properly find the center of pitch and listen for an adaptive center of pitch. Most flautists aren't playing in a symphony and will be exposed to an ever changing center of pitch. 2. Read More

I am a teacher who is passionate about helping students learn and discover their talent for music. I graduated from Capital University with a Music Education degree and have been teaching music in Columbus City Schools for almost ten years. My philosophy centers on the fact that every student no matter of age or experience, can learn and grow. I've sung and played piano at various venues and events and have even served at a church leading and planning the music ministry. Read More
