For piano students, I prefer Alfred's methods, whether the adult or for beginners. For band and orchestra, I use Essential Elements (or whatever their school is using), and supplement with Rubank's methods. For voice, I concentrate on whatever the student is interested in, with a foundation of good technique and understanding of the voice range and how to control it, with some solfege and sight-singing mixed in. I have been taking lessons since the age of three.  I've studied with many different teachers and I love music as a way of life.  I love teaching as much as I love playing and couldn't imagine doing any other job. For students who are children I start with methods such as Hal Leonard to accommodate for their smaller hands. After the student is comfortable with the guitar we will move on to more challenging solo pieces and branch off into which genre they are interested in. For teenage and adult students I begin teaching the basic fundamentals for the guitar and move on to what ever genre the student wishes to learn. Read More

While there are certain etude books and pieces that I recommend due to their musical quality and educational value, such as the 32 Etudes & 40 Studies by Cyrille Rose, I allow the student to chose from a list of pieces to ensure that the music we work on is engaging and fun. My teaching experience began close to 10 years ago, beginning with private lessons and eventually moving towards chamber music and alternative styles. My performance experience began when I was six years old, and I've performed in many different types of areas, including: Solo, chamber music, orchestra, classical and fiddle competitions, musicals, small jazz ensembles, and chamber orchestra.
