Overview:
I have been playing piano since I was 6 years old. Until very recently I have decided that I want this to become my career. I believe that there is a whole world in learning and understanding music. If people can learn its transient power it will benefit their lives! I am fortunate enough to have access to the organ as well as the piano, which I practice every day. I specifically like to improvise and get in a flow where time stops and I am fully immersed. Looking forward to share this knowledge with you!
EXPERIENCE
I have been playing piano all my life and at this moment I am giving private lessons to beginners and looking to expand my student base. I was an Organist from October 2007 to December 2008 at Our Lady of Victory, where I played for a choir with over 15 hymns in my repertoire and performed for a congregation with over 200 participants on a weekly basis. In 2005 I was the rehearsal pianist for Southwest Ballet in Carnegie, PA. Also, in 2004, I played at the Scholarship Awards Ceremony for Ukrainian Technological Society.
METHODS USED
I have many books for beginners that I used growing up. I usually get a feel how the student is going to learn to enjoy music and then go from there. There are different types of beginner books, one focusing more on the technical aspect and the other one on note reading right from the start, so its really based on how the student learns and take small steps from there. Technicality is a huge theme in my teaching as that is the ground work the student will use to play music proficiently. If the student is intermediate and advancing I make sure that his note reading ability is down solidly.
LESSON STYLE
Learning to internalize music and see its connection is done through practice and technique. As we are in permanence and music is in transience, I focus on the permanence with the student; the technique, discipline, rhythm, so the student himself/herself has the tools to transcend the piano into music. Practice is the bread and butter for improving so I always give the student lessons to do until next time we meet, focusing on technique, as that will give the student power for music reading and learning.
