I believe that the overarching goal of music is not to become "successful" or to become a virtuoso, but to bring joy into your own life. This is why I create a unique curriculum for each student that is designed to meet their wants and needs as musicians. For example: if the goal of a student is to become a guitarist in a performing band that creates original music, I will emphasize song writing, improvisation, and ear training that is required to become that type of musician. While earning my two Bachelors Degrees at New Paltz, several of the students and I form a Jazz Fusion quartet and played at various venues are the Hudson Valley Area. I was also recruited by the SUNY New Paltz Administration Team to perform at various school functions (award ceremonies, graduation ceremonies, executive galas, etc.). For beginners of any age, I begin by discussing goals, milestones, and how we will achieve them. I do use method books, but only recommend those that will be useful in and out of lessons. I keep lessons fun and engaging, and always demonstrate before expecting the student to do the same. Fundamentals as building blocks are always needed, but I never keep a learning plan the same from student to student- goals (that can always be changed) are what I use to guide a student to be confident for any performance. I am a very motivated instructor who really loves helping students of all ages. I am orginally from the Midwest and moved to New York City to persue opera performing. Recently, my family and I relocated to the Buffalo area and I am looking forward to working with some of the local musicians.
