I believe that if a student is told what they are doing wrong constantly, they will feel like they aren't good enough for the instrument, or they will lose interest. While hearing something and being able to mimick it is important, being able to read music is a key factor when continuing to grow as a musician of all levels. I like to go over at least the basics of music theory with every student in bite-sized easy to understand pieces. This is in conjunction with our vocal lessons.
