My teaching style is to help one discover a love for music. When I was learning, the best way I got excited was by learning through what I liked. That helped me get excited for playing music, and more interested in learning the complexities in music. By acknowledging what the student likes and their strengths, I can help focus them on how to reach the dreams they desire. I give my students a positive attitude with no judgement of their skill level. Read More

Hello! I am a Junior jazz trombone and music education student at the University of Michigan. I come from a musical family, both of my parents are musicians. Teaching is one of the most fulfilling things for me, especially with the thing I love most, music! Being from Michigan, I have lots of connections with local musicians and directors at schools, and of course at the University of Michigan. I hope to one day have a private studio in the future, and to continue teaching music for as long as I can. Read More

I'm a dedicated and unique instructor who enjoys sharing my love of music with students who are taking their first steps into the world of music. I've had some formal training in music theory and performance, but the bulk of my experience comes from good old fashioned performing. I have written original music, played with national and regional touring acts worked as a session musician and have been playing nearly every weekend at clubs in my area for the last ten years. There really is no limit to which methods work for people. Every person learns their own way, and it is true that a variety of methods work for an individuals learning process. I enjoy employing all ways of experiencing music including playing by ear, reading sheet music, learning music theory and its practical applications, as well as playing with others and truly feeling what the music is wanting to say. For beginning trombonists I like to start with the standard Hal Leonard Essential Elements book, which teaches all of the fundamentals of great trombone playing. As the student progresses I add in various etude books that teach technical ability, musicality, and facility on the instrument. I also assign a solo or two for the student to work on which applies all of the fundamentals listed before into a tangible piece of performed music. Read More

I have been teaching now for more than 7 years, starting fresh out of High School. I encourage my students to follow their dreams and put their all into their craft. I find that my students reap better rewards when they have a consistent and concise method of practicing, to which they can develop with my help and then "out grow" their need for my instruction. One of my goals as an educator is to build self sufficient humans that can tackle the challenges of not only their instrument, but their lives as well. Read More
