Though I will use basic materials to give students the knowledge necessary to begin, I believe it is important to allow students to play things themselves, to make mistakes because that is how we learn. My goal is to teach people music not to show them, meaning I provide the framework for a student's improvement so the student themselves can finish building the way they want to. Every student learns differently and I can effectively adapt to different paces at which students learn. supporting and acknowledging a student's progress is key. Read More
Instruments: Trombone
I'm a trombonist in my last semester of my Master's degree in performance and chamber music at the University of Michigan, and am so excited to share my knowledge with students of any age. I believe that music should evoke strong feelings in both the performer as well as the audience members, so my teaching approach aims to foster musicality and the love of music in all forms. I've worked on and performed just about every style of music under the sun that trombones are utilized in so I am adaptable to whatever kind of music students want to work on, not just strictly classical. I have been passionate instructor and have been playing multi instruments for 15+ years. I graduated with a degree in Psychology and work as an ABA Therapist for autistic children. I have been in multiple bands and recorded a lot of songs. I have toured Michigan and the outer areas. I have had the opportunity to play at the Majestic Theater in Detroit, as well as St. Andrew's. Those were some of the most nerve wracking shows. Read More

The best part of teaching is seeing the look in my student's eyes as something finally clicks for them. Helping students grow into independent musicians is my main goal as a teacher. I do this through helping the students understand all of the moving parts of music, like the theory behind what they are playing, so that they are able to transfer their knowledge to whatever music they will work on next. One of things I that I find discouraging is when teachers stick with one method. Every student is different! As a result, my method of teaching very much depends on the student. If I have a student who is struggling with fundamentals, then we will focus on fundamentals. If I have a student who is struggling with articulations, then we will focus on articulations in lessons. My lessons are very much tailored to the wants and needs of the students. Read More
Instruments: Voice
I began teaching during my Masters. I have taught at the Forte Music School in Toledo, and a few lessons privately. Now that I have graduated I plan on taking more time to dedicate to building my voice studio. I thrive on making a fun, warm, comfortable environment for my students. This will be a place where it is okay to make mistakes because we know they will aid us in our successes. Read More

I firmly believe that students are best served when their teacher knows and cares about them. This attitude toward teaching helps me to tailor instruction to students' needs rather than following a prescriptive method. I usually begin lessons with a brief, informal conversation where we discuss the student's week and talk about things that are important to them. A strong and appropriate student-teacher relationship is the bedrock for successful goal-setting, accountability, and, of course, fun in private lessons! Read More
