My teaching goal is to encourage my students to be lifelong patrons of the arts.  I understand that every student may not be interested in a career in music.  I encourage students to set goals and work toward them.  These goals may include a scholarship audition, playing a piece in front of a family member, or booking their first professional "gig." My main goal is to provide inspiration and inspire a student ( no matter what the starting place) to pick a 'first goal." Additionally, I place a strong emphasis on selecting pieces that resonate with each student's preferences, thereby enhancing motivation during practice sessions. For younger cello students I love Suzuki book 1- for older students I use Lee. For my piano students I start with Bastien series. I always try to keep my students engaged and lessons positive. Initially, I assess students at their level and accept their level. Then, we establish a clear goal and assess the reasonable steps to achieve this goal. Each lesson is personally tailored to the students needs, with a focus on where that individual student needs to grow. I believe that the lesson time is not simply a time to "practice", but it is a time to assess if the student is practicing correctly outside of class throughout the week. Read More
