14 years of public school instrumental music teaching in the Denver area. More than 20 years private music instruction. Performed around the metro area with many orchestras, community bands and jazz bands.
I began my musical journey in Shreveport, Louisiana at the age of 10 when I started taking piano lessons. In Middle School, the piano was replaced with the flute which soon became my greatest passion. By the time I was only 14 years old I was already performing for various festivals and private receptions in the Shreveport area. After High School, I continued my musical career with a music scholarship to Centenary College of Lousiana where I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Instrumental Music Education. In college I studied the flute as well as other instruments such as piano, oboe, and percussion. On flute, I continued to perform all over the town as well as in many of the College ensembles such as the Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Chamber Winds, and Orchestra. I was also asked to perform with the Shreveport Symphony and travelled across the border to perform with the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico. I also became a two-time winner of the annual Centenary College Concerto Competition. I then began teaching private lessons while in College. After College, I went on to teach music in public schools. Before coming to Colorado Springs I was a Middle School Band Director in Houston, Texas for 10 years, where I established myself as one of the most dedicated band directors in the district. I continue to play and perform music on flute as well as piano in a variety of settings. I have been teaching flute privately for 2 years since I have been in Colorado.
I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in May 2013 with a degree in jazz studies. While at UNC I studied jazz music as well as classical music. I'm very excited about teaching beginning and intermediate improvisers my own systematic approach to jazz improvisation. I'm also excited about teaching saxophone technique to beginning and intermediate saxophonists.
I've been playing bass for 13yrs and guitar for about 9yrs. I started out learning to play bass in the church and took lessons from the Pastor's son for a few months. Eventually became self-taught and learned from bassists that I admired and formed my own style of playing. I went on to teach friends, family, and church folk what I know about bass and music. I have played in a few church bands as well as rock and punk bands in the Southern California area. I've also partaked in many jam sessions involving various styles of music. Now I am trying to expand my knowledge to new, young , fresh, energetic, and passionate musicians.
Above all, Music should be fun! I love sharing my passion for music with everyone, especially my students. As well as studying what the student is enjoying lately, I would like my students to get a feel for and listen to many different styles of music so they will be able to play almost anything, and hopefully get a wider appreciation and understanding of music in it's many forms. For my beginning students I start with the basics and we progress as they develop their skills. I am very patient but I do expect students to work hard and practice at home every day. Repetition and practicing basic skills (rudiments and sticking exercises) are very important, as more complex music cannot be understood without a thorough knowledge of the fundamentals.

“My son and I have been taking lessons with Lynn for 5 or 6 years now. She is very patient with younger students (& older students having "senior moments"). She is also flexible in her lessons in that if we want to work on theory, jazz, rock, blues, she will cater to our requests.” – Karl B., C.P.A., Aug 2015

I feel she is a very professional teacher and I have already recommended your company and her to my friends who have children that play musical instruments. My 8 year old son has never been so enthusiastic to play his violin. His skills have improved almost exponentially since we have began lessons with Lauren. Your company has exceeded my expectations and I am very happy to have found it online.

"My daughter is 10 years old and has been taking piano lessons with Mr. Dale J. for almost 4 years now. She is progressing nicely. His kind and gentle way make for a very positive learning experience. Mr. Dale J. is encouraging without being harsh or belittling. He is patient and the ideal instructor for my daughter."

I am a beginning guitar player that has now taken five lessons with Jeff. I cannot speak highly enough of Jeff has a guitar teacher! I have learned more in five lessons than the months I spent trying to learn on my own. Jeff has introduced me to music apps that I can use during my practice sessions, followed up our lessons with comments and/or music, is very encouraging - yet holds high standards. During my lessons I feel that Jeff is very observant and tuned in to your positioning when playing - whether it be your wrist, your arm, or your fingers. He always offers recommendations on ways to try to fix something that I might be struggling with. He really pays attention. As an aside, Jeff is a very talented songwriter and musician. Check him out on YouTube. His songs are very beautiful and inspirational. I'm honored to be his student! - Linda

David is not only a great musician and educator but also a delightful human. We began using David six years ago as a piano teacher for my two boys. Since then my eldest moved on to acoustic and electric guitar and my youngest electric and stand up bass. Somewhere along the way I began to take guitar lessons also (I was David's most bearded student at age 48). David always came prepared to lead but also to follow, he often asked what we were listening to and taught us how to play it. His ability to listen to a piece of music and transcribe it always left me amazed, we have several notebooks full of songs we learned individually or played as a group. After a shoulder injury David continued to impress by teaching me music theory instead of our usual lesson. I could go on forever, David made a positive impact on my family and feel fortunate to have met him.

My son enjoys his viola lesson each week with Martina. She is disciplined in her approach to teaching but always makes my son's learning experience enjoyable. She knows how to challenge him and develop excellent form. Martina is always punctual and professional. We both highly recommend her as an instructor.

Giorgi has made learning cello even more fun. From the sympathetic, "It is hard" to the precise, "Be careful about the curve of the thumb" he has strengthened learning in every lesson, without being overwhelming. He started playing a little duet on only the 3rd lesson or so, which made me feel, even as a beginner, that I'm already starting to make (occasionally screachy) music. He has suggested a variety of drills and practice techniques which have also sped up the process a lot. And he has a good sense of humor and surprising amount of patience.

Usually I don't write reviews. I am compelled to write for Feng. I've experience finding/working with many music teachers over the years for different instruments (piano, flute, sax) for kids. I think Feng is the best, he is so passionate about music, he encourages the kids. He teaches thoroughly - you can tell he knows lot about saxophone. I would definitely recommend Feng!!

Ted S. is teaching clarinet to one of my children, and piano to two others. He is extremely knowledgeable, and very encouraging. His teaching methods are keeping my children enthused about their lessons, and without that, you have nothing. Two of my children were taking piano lesson from another teacher for the past year, and not progressing. Ted has been able to evaluate their skills individually, determine what was missing in their music education, and begin again with some early basics they seem to have missed. I am convinced we are finally moving forward, and am very happy about that. I wish I would have made this change much earlier.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
