Sounds daunting but a child can learn to play major and minor bass chords in a very short period of time, because you learn by feel since you can't see your bass. Where a pianist must take pains to play bass keys with chords, a beginner accordionist can play major, minor, and sevenths within three lessons. After being familiar with the bass, the accordionist can concentrate on his/her keyboard side, because the bass becomes almost second nature with the exception of more advanced and classical counterpoint studies. I am 74 years young, have been married for 42 years, have six children, two birth and four adopted from Ethiopia, live near Parker on a 5-acre property with 4 horses, several dogs and a husband. I am healthy, flexible and friendly. I play with a flutist at several assisted living facilities. For beginning students who are children, I use a variety of methods, including Hal Leonard's Children's Guitar Method, Suzuki methodologies (I am NOT a Suzuki-certified teacher), and materials I've developed over my 25 year teaching career. I emphasize basic technique for the left and right hands, and I make sure they learn the basics of reading music. For older students (middle school-age to adult), I tend to let the student lead. I have performed all over the Front Range and throughout Colorado for almost 50 years. I direct a community orchestra and have played my trumpet in Jazz, symphonic orchestras, and bands for almost 50 years.
