I encompass his lesson plan into my own as much as possible because it was his teachings that got me to where I am today. I find with my students that a healthy balance of practicing fundamentals and practicing pieces of music that they are very passionate about produces a great deal of inspiration and fuels their creative process. By High School, I had already formed three bands, and composed & recorded a solo album on my own. In 2013, I started my music degree at the University of Colorado Denver, and graduated in 2018. I’ve learned many different instruments since I got involved in music, but guitar is my main instrument. However, what I find most gratifying about music is the combination of multiple instruments together, forming an arrangement. Although my goal is to let you lead the way as far as what you’d like to know, I believe that understanding how your instrument can be placed into the larger picture is a key aspect to learning music, and very enjoyable. For young beginners I start with a wonderful method book called "Progressive Piano method for young beginners". It begins with note reading which I feel is one of the most important parts of beginner piano playing. The book includes a play-along cd that I use for rhythm practice during lessons to clap and count, because having a steady rhythm is the second most important aspect of playing the piano. Lessons include a mixture of reading and playing music from the book, clapping and counting, flashcards, and musical games. Read More
