I'm looking for motivated students who want to quickly and efficiently improve their piano. I've taken lessons privately, at college (William and Mary in Virginia), and a great interest in empowering people. I have an analytical mind so hopefully that helps break down a complex problem into something very approachable. Let's meet, set our goals and I can be as independent as you need. I have played piano for 25 years and performed for singers, soloists, and in solo concerts as well. Read More

My teaching style is fairly easy going. I don't force unrealistic expectations on students because everyone is learning music for a different reason. I like to figure out what their reason is and progress accordingly. If it's a young student looking to continue music throughout their school career, I will make sure they learn how to read sufficiently and I will make sure they know how to play with peers by performing with the student as an accompanist. For young beginners I start with a wonderful method book called "Progressive Piano method for young beginners". It begins with note reading which I feel is one of the most important parts of beginner piano playing. The book includes a play-along cd that I use for rhythm practice during lessons to clap and count, because having a steady rhythm is the second most important aspect of playing the piano. Lessons include a mixture of reading and playing music from the book, clapping and counting, flashcards, and musical games. Read More

And both sides share the joy of these discoveries. It is very important for me to be friendly, open and patient with the students. I believe that the educators are to do their best to build up and maintain the sense of acceptance in all students. Interaction between students and teacher is fertile with opportunities to sow the seeds of acceptance. Another important parts of teachers mission are nourishing students natural curiosity and helping them to develop their problem-solving abilities. Read More

I have tried almost every method book available. Once I have met a student, it is important that I find instruction books that I hope will be appealing to the student. Basic theory is absolutely fundamental to learning to play. There are many different theory books as well as online theory lessons. However, at the very beginning of lessons, I like to use manuscript paper and ask the student to write his/her own music. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
