I have learned that when a student practices a mistake over and over it remains a mistake. I immediately slow the student down and concentrate on just a measure or even two notes to accomplish correct rhythm, fingerings, articulations and phrasing. Once basic theory is introduced, I look for music that I hope the student will enjoy playing. I know that there is music I love to play and music I would rather not play.
