For young beginners I start with a wonderful method book called "Progressive Piano method for young beginners". It begins with note reading which I feel is one of the most important parts of beginner piano playing. The book includes a play-along cd that I use for rhythm practice during lessons to clap and count, because having a steady rhythm is the second most important aspect of playing the piano. Lessons include a mixture of reading and playing music from the book, clapping and counting, flashcards, and musical games. Read More

My teaching style is dependent on the particular student. For all students, I work to not over assign pieces. There is so much to learn in music, it can be tempting to try to teach concepts too quickly. However, an organized, logical approach that introduces one concept at a time works best. The best music theory teacher I have had was organized and was able to stick to teaching one concept at a time, with sequential lessons building on the information from the previous lesson. Music is one of my greatest passions. I enjoy helping others discover or rediscover their love of music through a sensible approach and truly attempt to craft my teaching style to fit the indiviudal needs of each student. I think music should be a form of both creative expression and enjoyment - never a means to feel frustration or pressure. I completed my degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2006 in music performance with an emphasis in jazz studies. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
