I adapt my methods to each student accordingly. Every person is unique and has a different taste in music. However I am strict in making sure that all my students understand the fundamentals of music. Ear Training, music theory, ability to read notation and tabs, understanding chords and voicing, how to count rhythms. I have a set list of songs I teach most of my students, as they help to develop technique and are usually well received by most students. Read More

I began teaching music at the age of 15, primarily guitar and piano lessons for beginners ages 7-14 in my hometown of Parker, CO. At 16 I began teaching my students basic music theory and intermediate instrumental instruction. I moved to Boston in 2012 to pursue an undergraduate degree in Songwriting from Berklee College of Music in Boston, still actively teaching throughout my curriculum. I have now taught over 200 students ages 4 to 64 a wide variety of music-related subjects, including: piano, guitar, bass, voice, music theory, D.A.W. and notation software, and contemporary songwriting. Lessons are geared to the individual student. I try to provide a warm and friendly atmosphere while providing a professional experience for the students. Theory is emphasized as well as technique for both the piano and voice student. Most voice students will get a basic knowledge of music reading skills while piano students tend to have a bit more in depth studies. I also use fun worksheets to help with the learning of theory which are based upon the season that we are currently in. Read More

I am very goal-oriented in my teaching because it provides not only motivation but proof for my students. In that vain, it's important for me to understand why a student is taking lessons so that we can effectively work together to progress. Wether the goal is to familiarize a young student with note reading and musical ideas, to help a musical hobbyist learn their favorite hits, or to train technique for refined classical music performance - I take a tailored approach to each student's instruction. My approach to teaching is personal, flexible, and student-centered. I will start by finding out what the student knows already, and what the student wants to know. What kinds of music do they want to play, and why? (For instance: for fun; accompanying themselves singing; performing in front of people; becoming professional.) If the student can play some samples of songs they would like to learn, all the better. Along the way, some basics will surely be covered (chords, scales, basic music theory, various instrumental techniques). Read More

My teaching style is based around having fun while learning important techniques. Some students will pick up a technique or a piece of music in one week, while another might struggle with the same piece for a whole month, and that's okay! I will never force a student to move on from something they feel less than great about, and with that ideology, I believe students gain the confidence that is so vital to the creative process of music making. I graduated from the University of Louisville with a degree in Music performance, emphasis in voice. During that time I was given the opportunities to sing with some wonderful groups including Kentucky Opera Chorus, Cardinal Singers, Early Music Ensemble, and Choral Arts Society. Since moving to Colorado in 2016, I have sang with multiple quartets and ensembles, including St Martin's Chamber Choir, Gaudium Verum, Anima Chamber Ensemble as well as continuing to teach music in an individual and/or choral setting.
