Overview:

I love music and love creating music experiences with others. I was in the I violin section in the Fairbanks Symphony orchestra the last few years. I received my Suzuki Teacher Certification for Violin books 1-6 in 2018. I received my Bachelors of Arts in Violin Performance in May of 2016. I've had much experience playing in an orchestra and being a part of string ensembles. I was concertmaster of the Moore County Philharmonic for 2 years. Summer of 2015, I received a scholarship and traveled with a string ensemble through New England.

EXPERIENCE

I started teaching private lessons at the age of 15. I am classically trained but do enjoy Celtic and fiddling music as well. I had the opportunity to voluntarily teach violin and cello at community center in 2017. I have also taught Suzuki group classes as well. I have received my Suzuki Teacher Training for Violin Books 1-6. I enjoy teaching all levels. Seeing others excel and progress is a great joy to me. Good practicing habits and proper technique are key. Fundamentals are important for the creating of greater skill potential. In the beginning, I do focus on form as well as producing a good tone out of the violin. Piano is similar with form. I believe the skills used in learning music can be used in learning other skills in life. My goal is not to just make a great musicians, but rather to encourage others in their endeavors and to teach a method of practice and learning that can be used in other areas in life. I do have two recitals a year. One in the winter and one in the spring.

METHODS USED

I use the Suzuki method for violin and the Alfred curriculum for piano. The Suzuki Method really focuses on the ability to train the ear first before reading music. I believe it is important to teach music reading skills as well as playing by ear. My hope is to guide students early on and teach good technique from the start so that they will not have to change bad habits later on. Learning new songs is fun but my goal is not to "check off" songs as we go. My goal is for my students to not to only expand their repertoire but more importantly to grow as a violinist/pianist/musician in skill and musicality as well as personally.

LESSON STYLE

I love hearing a student improve in their music. I love not only hearing them play but seeing them grow as a person. Music is an incredible powerful gift that can be used in so many different ways. I believe in learning a musical instrument students can be benefited as a person by learning self discipline/patience/perseverance. It's a great way to set goals and see goals met. There is no way for learning an instrument to be a quick process but little by little it can progress to a great accomplishment. It not only for self benefit but also for others. I want my students to learn what they have learned and to use it to bless and maybe even some day teach others.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
