It comes with Three Volumes, and from beginner to intermediate anywhere in the book is a great place to start! I am generally laid back and understanding of a student's wishes and goals when learning a new instrument. Most folks are not trying to become world-class players on the bagpipe and I recognize that. The more laid back my student is, the more laid back I am. If a student is very serious, then I will match that and be very serious as an instructor. My teaching experience dates back to my college days as I began teaching as an instructor for a local high school marching band, leading their woodwind sectionals and marching clinics. I began teaching full-time in 1992 and temporarily left full-time teaching in 1998 when my daughter was born. It was at this time that I first opened my home up to teaching privately. She has always encouraged my talent and made sure I was using proper form as often as possible, even when I adopted the hobby of transcribing popular music to the piano and playing from rote. In my studio, I encourage students to look solely at their own track. Everyone's journey is different. We all start lessons at a different age, have different strengths, weaknesses, likes and dislikes! I welcome my students to share what they love...and hate... so I can tailor our time together to fit their specific learning styles. My teaching philosophy includes asking questions and planning activities that enhance cognitive function. I want to give my students the tools they need so they can look at a piece of music and say, "I know how to practice this," or "I can play this." I like to be encouraging and positive in lessons! I also like to maintain a certain standard :)! I think developing consistency in practice even if it starts at 15 mins a day is key to success. There is a lot of muscle memory and training involve and it requires consistency. I do my best to set realistic and clear weekly goals for each student and encourage them along the way! I find if one is consistent with practice, usually within a semester (6 months) or earlier, one can play their first song and feel comfortable to perform in public within 1 years time! Read More

Learning to internalize music and see its connection is done through practice and technique. As we are in permanence and music is in transience, I focus on the permanence with the student; the technique, discipline, rhythm, so the student himself/herself has the tools to transcend the piano into music.
