For violin I usually use Suzuki Method and will introduce etudes like Wohlfahrt or Kreutzer. I also have fun with Christmas music, pop and fiddle. If they are young children aged 4-6, I will use the "I Can Read Music" by Joanne Martin. For guitar I use a variety of different classical method and etude books. An adequate grasp of the fundamentals, along with consistent practice and rehearsal times, lead to a student expediting their abilities. In 2011, I graduated from Howard Payne University with a degree in music education, where I often performed lead roles in production spanning from "Bye, Bye Birdie," to "Gianni Schicchi." I am currently pursuing an advanced degree in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from UTSA, and am projected to graduate in Spring 2015. Before the first lesson I always like to inquire with the student (Parent/Guardian) if the student has taken lessons in the past, in order to better teach, and assign practice material. However, if a student has never taken lessons before, I recommend to young students the Alfred's Basic Piano Lessons Book 1, and for my adult students I will send supplemental materials via email, but also encourage that they purchase in the future, "Essential Piano Repertoire" Level two by Keith Snell. I approach teaching with a fun atmosphere, laid back to be comfortable to ask questions, develop passion for music to allow progress and praise to build confidence so students want to try more difficult music to help build that motivation and eagerness to learn.
