When I graduated from UTSA with my degree in IDS and a Specialization in Music I took a job as a 3rd grade elementary school teacher, but continued to teach piano part time. I am a fully-certified music educator of over 20 years: I have taught both middle school band & choir to at-risk youth for 3 years, as well as elementary music at a private Christian academy for an additional 3 years. I believe in age appropriate techniques and repertoire, and use both warm-ups and vocalises, along with accessible repertoire to foster technique and give students the tools they need to think through a song on their own. I follow standard Bel Canto technique for all of my students, then teach modifications for each style.
