Once the student has grasped a good level of fundamentals, I begin to introduce level appropriate solo repertoire pieces not only of my choosing, but of the students choosing as well. As aforementioned, every student is different. What inspires one particular student may not inspire another. I find it important to establish early on what motivates the student, and incorporate that into every lesson in some facet. Along with the lesson, I also make it a point to establish and encourage consistent practice routines that make practicing the instrument more rewarding and less monotonous. I began teaching in 2010 as a private lesson instructor. In 2016, I began working for a teaching school in New York City. I'm now based in Northeastern Pennsylvania and looking to cultivate a community of musicians through a shared love of the craft. For a typical lesson Ill teach half basics and theory and the other half songs or anything the students interested in. I am adamant that the student's are practicing at least 30 mins a day. For guitar I strongly recommend using Hal Leonards Guitar method books even if were only working out of it for a quarter of the lesson. For piano I recommend a Hal Leonard book without question. I do pass some handouts of pieces,exercises,etc that I feel are worthy for the student. Read More
