My teaching experience dates back to the early 2000s, I began teaching private lessons part time. In 2009, I began teaching for a local performing arts school full-time. Among the accomplishments of my prior students, I have 3 who have graduated and attended Berkeley School of Music in Boston, 1 graduated from New York Film Academy and is working off Broadway, 1 who graduated from Pace University then went on to perform on Broadway and now is performing along side Rod Stewart, I have 2 who are now teaching music, and a number of others who are in college, have graduated, or are recording, writing and/or performing nationally and internationally. The most important aspect of music, for me, is to enjoy what you are doing. I entered the world of music as an escape from my rigorous Engineering curriculum. The last thing I want is for my students to become too stressed or frustrated with their learning. Therefore, I ensure that all students go at a comfortable pace while setting challenging, but realistic, goals for themselves. My teaching experience encompasses many areas of percussion. I've been teaching private drum lessons throughout my time in college, and also served as Percussion camp counselor at Mansfield. The percussion camp at Mansfield insists vast exposure to all areas of percussion, including drum set, mallet percussion, marching percussion, steel pans, and orchestral percussion, so a wide-spread knowledge of the instruments is essential in being a counselor for the camp. Everything depends on what instrument the student is learning. For violin, viola, and cello lessons I typically use a few different method books and handout sheets for the first few lessons, and then switch to using Suzuki books once the basic concepts have been mastered.
