I began offering private string lessons in College during summers in Florida. I taught private string lessons. Further into my education I took internships in music therapy working with many different populations. I gave therapeutic music lessons to patients in hospitals like Massachusetts General Hospital, Worcester Recovery Center and McLean Hospital. There I ventured into teaching guitar and voice. All of my students have the same basic foundation. On top of that foundation we add in specific tutorials geared towards the type of music that they want to plat. We identify key elements and styles within that genre of music that their interest in. Then I construct a specific lesson plan geared towards that particular style. When students are being lazy I call them out on it by saying something like, "What is that?"  It shakes them up and makes them realize I catch every mistake.  It's done in a lighthearted way so that the students feel comfortable with me as I do not want to drive away students who fear their teacher.  Comfort and discipline are imperative to help them achieve their goals.  If a student feels comfortable with their instrument they are more willing to practice and achieve a higher goal of performance. I am now teaching bass guitar via Skype to my college room mate who decided at age 68 he wanted to learn. So, I helped him find the instrument that met his requirements of large hands, a reliable instrument, and additional teaching in Colorado.
