For beginning students who are younger I typically start with Faber and Faber's Piano Adventures. If a student is older I will put them in the accelerated method or the adult method. I will sometimes supplement with Alfred's Premier series or Music Tree. Once a student has progressed to a certian level, I will introduce other piano literature to supplement the method book learning. Zac is recipient of several awards including the Friends of DCI Scholarship, the Lacey/Striple Highland Band and Drum Scholarship, and KK Most Inspirational Band Member Award. Zac is a founding member of the Cincinnati Bengals Growl Drumline as well as director/founder of the Dayton Dragons Drumline. In addition to instructing at Cap City, Zac is currently the percussion director of Miamisburg High School, drumline teacher for Miami University, and a freelance performer and lesson instructor. I played with every type of group the university had to offer, including jazz bands, orchestras, concert bands, marching bands, percussion ensembles, steel drum ensembles, hand drum groups, musicals, accompaniment for the dance department, student recitals, rock bands, drum and bugle corps, and more. I continued with these groups while obtaining my Masters degree in Music performance, along with teaching undergraduate percussion majors, teaching university percussion ensembles, and assisting with the teaching of music major courses. For younger students I allow them to explor the instrument while showing them how to hold it and play. For older students I teach simple songs as well as scales and arpeggios.
