Some students need structure, some need to be encouraged and some just need someone to help them polish their skills. Modern middle and high schoolers can be very busy and it is not productive to give them too much than they can handle. I've been teaching guitar for the past 12 years, and more recently bass, ukulele, piano/keys, voice, percussion and studio recording as well. Once the basics are taught, the student will be allowed more flexibility in the repertoire and specific skills he/she wants to learn.
